Bavuma Plays a Crucial 58-Run Knock
In the ongoing third match of the Champions Trophy 2025 against Afghanistan, the Proteas side opted to bat first, hoping to put a giant total on the board at the National Stadium in Karachi. Opening batter Tony de Zorzi was dismissed early, but his partner Ryan Rickelton kept on batting as Temba Bavuma later joined him in the middle.
Coming in to bat at three, Bavuma played a valuable knock against the quality Afghan spin attack, who ensured he did not get away easily. Despite the consistency of the Afghan bowlers, Bavuma kept himself in the game as he found boundaries occasionally.
Batting 76 deliveries, he scored 58 crucial runs for his side while finding five fours during his knock. Bavuma came in at a stage when South Africa's score was 28/1, and when he was dismissed in the 29th over, their team's total reached 157/2.
With this, Temba Bavuma becomes the second most consistent player for South Africa since 2022 in all formats. The player who captains South Africa in ODIs and Tests is only behind T20I skipper Aiden Markram on the list of players with the most half-century scores in the last three years.
In 82 innings, Bavuma has 19 half-centuries, including this one, while Markram is at the top of the list with 20 fifties from 108 innings so far across formats. Therefore, let's have a look at the complete list.
