Catches win matches is a common phrase used on a cricket field. Fielding is an essential element of the sport and has been often overlooked.

However, in modern times, fielding has gained emphasis. Every once in a while, you will see freak catches being latched by quality athletic fielders.

But then fielders also have a lack of judgment, resulting in spilled catches. Those lost chances frequently cost the team crucial dismissals and even at times important games.

In that context, following are five players who have missed the most catches since 2023 in the ODI format.

5. Pathum Nissanka

Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka ranks fifth in the list with 7 dropped catches in 23 opportunities.

Although his catching efficiency of 69.57% is superior to some of the others, he is still one of the worst fielders in ODIs. Nissanka is an important player for Sri Lanka in the outfield, and his fielding errors have sometimes cost his team crucial wickets.

Developing his catching will be essential to his personal performance as well as Sri Lanka's success.

4. Glenn Phillips

One of the most surprising names on this list is Glenn Phillips. The New Zealand cricketer has been the best fielder lately, often pulling off spectacular diving catches.

However, since 2023, he has dropped 7 out of 23 chances, which is unexpected given his reputation. Phillips’ numbers show that even the best fielders can have off days.

However, considering his athleticism and fielding ability, he is likely to turn things around quickly.

 3. Charith Asalanka

Sri Lankan all-rounder Charith Asalanka is another cricketer who has got his name on this unwanted list.

Similar to Brandon King, he has dropped 8 catches in 22 chances and his catching percentage is 63.64%. He has appeared in 54 ODIs since 2023 and has even led his team in most of these ODIs.

Asalanka is generally a sound fielder in the outfield, but current form suggests inconsistency.

 2. Brandon King

West Indies batter Brandon King has also had a tough time in the field, dropping 8 out of 22 chances in ODI format since 2023.

Although his catching effectiveness is marginally better than that of others, it is still short of the standards. King's dropped catches have put his team in trouble repeatedly.

Being an athletic cricketer, his fielding failures have been a disappointment, and the West Indies management will be hoping he performs better in this department.

 1. Rohit Sharma

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma leads the list of unwanted. Since 2023, Rohit has played in 34 ODI matches and had a total of 22 catching chances.

However, he went on to drop 10 of them and was able to hook just 12 catches.

During the Champions Trophy 2025 game against Bangladesh, his dropped catch in the slip cost Axar Patel a monumental hattrick.
