According to emerging reports, India and Pakistan are placed in the same group in the upcoming T20 World Cup. The Men in Blue will face the United States in their tournament opener before taking on Namibia, Pakistan and the Netherlands in their subsequent affairs.
T20 World Cup 2026 groups revealed; India to take on USA before PAK mega clash
As reported by Cricbuzz, arch-rivals India and Pakistan will be grouped together alongside the Netherlands, Namibia and the United States. The mega clash between India and Pakistan will likely be scheduled for February 15 at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
The twenty participating teams have been divided in four groups, each comprising five teams. While India and Pakistan find themselves in the same group, Australia are placed alongside Sri Lanka, Oman, Zimbabwe and Ireland.
Meanwhile, England will take on the West Indies, Bangladesh, Nepal and giant-killers Italy in the group-stage. Talking about South Africa, the 2024 T20 World Cup finalists will cross swords against New Zealand, Afghanistan, Canada and the United Arab Emirates.
T20 World Cup 2026 format and venues
The top two teams from each group will proceed to the Super Eight stage based on hierarchy in the points table. Each team will play three matches in the second round, with top four entering the semifinals.
Talking about the T20 World Cup 2026 venues, the matches in India will be distributed across five major cities- Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi and Ahmedabad. The Cricbuzz report states that the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is the frontrunner to host the final, while the semifinals might be conducted in Mumbai and Kolkata.
However, Pakistan will play all their matches in Sri Lanka, and the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo will be given the hosting rights of one of the semifinals and the final if the Men in Green qualify for the same.
