The United Arab Emirates (UAE) suffered a brutal 0-2 defeat against Bangladesh in a home two-match T20I series. It was a poor batting performance by the team as they ended up with only 151 and 137 runs across two innings. The two back-to-back losses have not dampened the team’s spirit and they are confident of making it to the Super 12 round in the T20 World Cup 2022.

UAE forms a part of Group A alongside Sri Lanka, Netherlands, and Namibia. Before the commencement of the tournament, the team will be playing two official warm-up games with West India and Scotland. To acclimatise to the playing conditions, the UAE cricket team departed for Australia on Thursday morning.

The newly appointed vice-captain Vriitya Aravind is excited about the world cup and is looking forward to helping CP Rizwan in the leadership duties. Aravind said

“Not much of a difference in my role because as a keeper I was a leader in the team. Anyway, now I have to continue the role officially. It’s a good role to have and with CP being the new captain and me as his deputy, it’s a new experience for us. And, hopefully, we will do well in the World Cup.”

CP Rizwan reflects on UAE’s performance against Bangladesh

Further, the skipper Rizwan reflected on the team’s preparation for the marquee event. The right-hander is confident of qualifying for the Super 12 round in the ICC event. He believes that going to Australia will help the players adapt better to the playing conditions.

“We are feeling confident about doing well in the World Cup and getting ready for the journey. We have to get used to the conditions early and take the positives from the series against Bangladesh and trust our preparations. I am sure we will adapt faster and fine-tune our skill sets to the requirement of Australian conditions.”

Meanwhile, Rizwan is proud of his team’s performance against Bangladesh. The skipper believes that they lost both the games by a small margin and gave the visitors a run for their money. He also acknowledged the mistakes of his team and is hoping to make corrections before the World Cup.
