With the T20 World Cup 2022 less than a month away, cricket analysts and former cricketers are coming up with their predictions regarding the winner. Former Australian captain Shane Watson is the latest to join the bandwagon as he picked two favourites for the ICC tournament.

Watson has backed India and Australia to do wonders in the event. The all-rounder believes that India’s victory against Australia in the recently concluded three-match T20I series makes them a strong contender. The Men in Blue were brilliant in the home tour as they won the second and third T20I by six wickets to clinch the series by 2-1.

Australia, on the other hand, will be walking in the T20 extravaganza as the defending champions. They will have the home advantage. Watson believes that playing on Australian soil can be a little challenging for India due to bigger grounds and pace-friendly wickets.

The veteran reflects on playing conditions in Australia

“India have played well here in the T20I series against Australia (so they are one of the favorites). And Australia, for me, are the other big favorites, (because) they are playing very good T20 cricket at the moment.

"The conditions in Australia are going to be different, the grounds are going to be much bigger. The pace in the wickets is definitely going to be a little more there as well. Australians are the favorites because of the good brand of cricket they are playing and they’ll utilize the home conditions well.”

While Australia will be going into the tournament with full strength, India have suffered two massive blows. The pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and spin all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja are likely to miss the T20 World Cup due to injuries. Moreover, the Blue Army is yet to win an ICC trophy since its victory in the 2013 Champions Trophy. They were the favorites for the World Cup last year as well. However, after losing to the likes of Pakistan and New Zealand, India failed to qualify for the playoffs.
