Australia captain, Pat Cummins, who has been nursing a frustrating ankle injury, was blessed with some good news this week. His wife, Becky gave birth to a baby girl and the couple named her ‘Edi.’
With the Champions Trophy 2025 around the corner, Australia landed in big trouble as their captain Cummins was ruled out of the tournament due to an ankle injury he sustained during the Border-Gavaskar series against India.
On top of that, speedster Josh Hazelwood was also ruled out due to an injury that kept him out of the final stage of the Test series against India.
Pat Cummins blessed with his second child
Amid a series of setbacks, Pat Cummins had a new addition to his little family. Earlier this week, Becky Cummins gave birth to the couple’s second child. They were blessed with a baby girl and named her ‘Edi.’
The skipper shared the news on social media and fans dropped heartwarming comments, congratulating the couple. Previously, Cummins had a son named ‘Albie.’
He got engaged to Becky in 2020 after several years of courtship and on August 1, 2022, the couple exchanged vows in a close-knit ceremony.
Hence, with Champions Trophy participation ruled out, Pat Cummins can spend quality time with his newborn baby and raise his family.
However, Australia has yet to announce Cummins’ replacement on the squad as they’ll need a new leader to guide the team.
Marcus Stoinis announces immediate retirement
In what came as a shocker to world cricket, all-rounder Marcus Stoinis announced his retirement from the ODI format on February 6, 2025, just two weeks before the Champions Trophy 2025.
He was named in the preliminary squad for the tournament but pulled out at the last moment to close the curtains on his ODI career. This only adds to the Aussies’ woes as Pat Cummins and Josh Hazelwood have already been ruled out with injuries.
