After a fifty in the first innings, SHardul Thakur produced yet another stellar show in the second innings and slammed a breath-taking century to bail Mumbai out of a precarious situation against Jammu and Kashmir in the Ranji Trophy. His all-round brilliance has suddenly put Mumbai in the driving seat in the contest.
After J&K scored 206 runs in their first innings, Mumbai openers, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal came out to bat witha positive frame of mind. Both the batters played some attacking shots, but just when it looked good for Mumbai, both the openers perished in quick successions.
The middle order batters also departed cheaply with the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Dube and Ajinkya Rahane, all departing cheaply. The team needed a saviour and Shardul once again stood tall. He, alongside Tanush Kotian started the repair work and looked ultra aggressive against the Jammu bowlers.
He batted with a positive frame of mind and slammed his century in no time to get Mumbai back on track. His innings was laced with 14 boundaries as he overshadowed the likes of Rohit Sharma and Jaiswal. After the century, he celebrated in an emotional way and looked pumped up after reaching the milestone.
Shardul rejected in Champions Trophy
Shardul Thakur was not picked in the Champions Trophy squad by the Indian selectors despite churning out decent numbers in the domestic circuit. Also, he didn't get a single bid in the IPL mega auction and went unsold in the IPL auction.
With a stellar knock, Shardul has certainly silenced his criticis and his celebration showed how emotional he got after breaching the milestone.
