Sri Lanka and Australia are taking on each other in the second Test of the two match series at the Galle International Stadium in Galle, Sri Lanka. The home team won the toss for the match and chose to bat in the game.

Batting first Sri Lanka scored 257 runs before they were bundled out in the 98th over of the innings. Kusal Mendis starred with the bat for Sri Lanka scoring 85 runs off 139 deliveries. For the Aussies, Mitchell Starc, Matt Kuhnemann and Nathan Lyon picked up three wickets each.

Sri Lanka would have hoped to pick up a few quick wicket and put Australia under pressure. They started well and had India under pressure at 91/3 by the 25th over of the innings. But at that stage, Steve Smith and Alex Carey got together and stitched a game-changing partnership.

Jayasuriya Ends Smith's Stellar Knock

Both Smith and Carey scored brilliant centuries and bailed the team out of pressure. The century for Smith was a historic one as it was his 36th Test ton and with this he equalled his contemporary from England, Joe Root.

Even after the century Smith continued with resilience but the left-arm spinner, Prabath Jayasuriya brought and end to his innings in the 85th over of the Australian innings. On the third delivery of the over, Jayasuriya bowled a full delivery at the off stump line that turned a bit. Smith tried to defend the ball off the front foot but was beaten by the turn. The ball took a faint edge and ended in the gloves of the keeper, ending a brilliant effort by the Australian stalwart.
