Mumbai Chief Selector, Sanjay Patil has lashed out at big Indian stars like Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal for their poor showing in the Ranji Trophy match Vs Jammu and Kashmir. As per the BCCI guidelines, all the Indian stars had to take part in domestic matches and Rohit, alongside Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer took part in the Ranji Trophy clash last month, but failed to deliver the goods.

The chief selector questioned the intent of the Indian players and has warned Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube to play the next match with the intention of scoring runs and not just because the BCCI has sent in directives to all the players to play in domestic matches. The two players have been featured in the Mumbai squad for the quarter-final clash Vs Haryana.

Selector fumes at Rohit and Jaiswal

Patil fumed at the star players by stating that he was left upset by Mumbai's "worst-ever" performance Vs Jammu and Kashmir and rued that the management had to accommodate Rohit and Jaiswal in place of new talents like Ayush Mhatre, who has already amassed 413 runs in the season.

“I'm very clear on this. Considering our defeat against J&K, which came despite the presence of six India cricketers in our lineup, which was very disappointing, I want both SKY and Dube not to just participate in this Ranji Trophy knockout match, but perform well, and contribute to Mumbai's victory.

"I'm still upset at the J&K defeat, which I feel was our worst ever. To accommodate the India players in that match, we had to deprive a few talented youngsters.

Rohit, Jaiswal's poor show on Ranji return

Both Rohit and Jaiswal opened for Mumbai against J&K, and while Rohit could only score 3 and 28 in the combined two innings, Jaiswal accumulated just 30 runs in the combined two innings as Mumbai suffered a shocking and a heavy 5-wicket defeat.

While the big stars failed to deliver, it was Shardul Thakur, who showed his class by slamming a sensational century in the second innings which gave his side a ray of hope.
