The Afghanistan dream to reach the Champions Trophy 2025 has been crushed by South Africa as the Proteas side qualified for the tournament's next round. England needed to beat South Africa by 207 runs for Afghanistan to qualify, but that didn't happen.

The England side batted first and they produced a horror show as the Three Lions got bundled out for a mere 179, meaning that even if the Proteas lose the game, their net run-rate would still be solid and as a result, the team has officially qualified for the next round.

Over the last few years, South Africa have done well in ICC tournaments, reaching the semis of the 50-over World Cup in 2023, then reached the finals of T20 World Cup last year, and have now reached yet another semis.

How South Africa dismantled England

England batted first as they tried to spoil South Africa's party, but the opposite happened as the Proteas bowlers came out all guns blazing and destroyed the England batters with utmost ease.

None of the English stars stood tall as Marco Jansen and Wiaan Mulder took 3 wickets and helped their team to qualify, even without their batters coming out to bat.

Afghanistan dream ends!

Afghanistan suffered a heavy defeat against South Africa in their tournament opener and this turned out to be a nightmare for them as their net run-rate took a big hit.

The Afghan side thrashed England to win their next match, but a rain-wash out game against Australia all but ended their semi-finale hopes before the inevitable happened today.
