The inevitable is about to happen as Pakistan are likely to sack their current head coach, Aaqib Javed after a dismal run in the Champions Trophy, where the side got knocked out of the group stage after heavy losses to New Zealand and India. As per media reports, Pakistan are ready looking for his potential replacements before the next tour.

The Pakistan cricket is going through a turmoil at the moment and they desperately need surgical repairs before their New Zealand tour kicks-off.

Why Aaqib Javed could be sacked?

Under his tenure, Pakistan cricket team lost the tri-nation series Vs New Zealand and also were knocked out of the Champions Trophy in the group stage. PCB feel they can get a better replacement and are ready not to extend his coaching contract with the team.

Ahead of the New Zealand tour, we look at 3 potential candidates who can replace Javed as the next head coach.

1) Mickey Arthur

Mickey Arthur was the coach of the Pakistan team from 2016-19 and under his guidance, the Men in Green went onto clinch the 2017 Champions Trophy title. Under his tenure, Pakistan also had memorable wins in England as he created a stable unit.

Recently he was also appointed as the Director of Pakistan Cricket, and to be successful once again, PCB could once again turn to Mickey Arthur as he has the experience of working with the team and knows the PCB inside out.

2) Younis Khan

Younis Khan, arguably Pakistan's greatest batter, had previously coached the national team for one-year between June 2020-June 2021. He served as the batting coach and under his guidance, the likes of Babar Azam, Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan improved their game and did well overseas.

However, he left the post due to arguments with Pakistan players. The batting lacks quality and bringing in Younis could potentially solve that problem as he, himself was one of the best batters of his generation.

3) Saqlain Mushtaq

PCB at the moment are in talks with former spinner, Saqlain Mushtaq to replace Aaqib Javed as the head coach. He is another player who has the experience of working with PCB and could be a shrewd choice for the New Zealand tour. In his playing days, he was a tactical genius, and could inject the same in the current crop of players.
