The Australian domestic first-class tournament kicked-off in style as the competition witnessed several Test stars honing their skills ahead of the much-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Series against the touring Indian side.

Team India will tour Australia for a 5-match Test series, commencing on November 22. The series will be a part of the WTC cycle as both India and Australia eye top place before the finale takes place in June 2025.

The likes of Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne and Mitch Starc all featured for their respective sides in the competition.

Smith, Labuschagne failed to deliver the goods

Talking about Steve Smith, he played for the New South Wales side Vs Victoria and his Australian national teammate, Scot Boland got the better of him in the second innings as the Aussie number 4 was dismissed for a duck in the second innings. In both the innings, Smith struggled for runs as he only accumulated 3 runs and saw his team lose the contest.

Boland exposed Smith's faulty technique with in-swinging deliveries as the batter found it difficult to get going.

Smith's fellow teammate, Marnus Labuschagne dropped a stinker as well. Playing for Queensland, Labuschagne was dismissed for scores of 22 and 10, and looked uncomfortable against the away going deliveries as his lean patch continues in red-ball cricket.

Starc shines with 6-wicket haul

However, there was one Aussie star who didn't disappoint on his domestic return and ran riot with the ball in hand - Mitchell Starc. The left-arm seamer scalped just a solitary wicket in the first innings, but came back strongly to grab a 6-wicket haul in the second innings.

He ended the second innings with figures of 6 for 81, but that wasn't enough as the New South Wales side lost the contest.
