India have a tough couple of months lined up at the international level, with two Tests remaining Vs New Zealand, followed by 5 gruelling Tests Vs Australia and a much-awaited Champions Trophy in Pakistan. For India to do well in these matches, they need their premium pacer, Jasprit Bumrah to be at his absolute best.
In the current home season, Bumrah has already played three Tests, and with a shocking defeat Vs New Zealand in the first Test, the Indian management has no choice but to play their best bowler against the Kiwis in the Pune Test.
Gambhir stresses on importance of workload management
Time and again, head coach, Gautam Gambhir has talked about Bumrah's workload management, and he believes that India's premium seamer should be given taken care properly, especially with the upcoming Australia series coming up.
Ahead of the 2nd Test match, Gambhir attended the pre match presser and gave a massive update on Bumrah's workload issue and whether the India seamer will get rest in 3rd match of the series.
“Once the series is over, we still have around 10 or 12 days before the (first) Test starts in Australia. That is enough break for our fast bowlers as well. But we will still monitor after this Test match where Jasprit Bumrah is,” Gambhir stated.
“But it’s not only about Jasprit Bumrah. It’s about with all the fast bowlers as well. We want to keep them fresh. We know that obviously we’ve got a long tour and an important tour of Australia.
Bumrah - India's key to unlock success in Australia series
The upcoming Australia tour will be Bumrah's third series, Down Under. He was one of the main reasons as to why India captured the series, 2-1 under Kohli's leadership. In that series, he scalped 21 wickets in 4 matches, including a fifer at MCG.
In the 2020-21 series, he again performed exceedingly well, but was eventually ruled out of the series due to an injury. Bumrah has suffered considerable injuries in his short international career, and as a result, Gambhir is cautious and doesn't want to take any risk before crucial games.
