A couple of days after bowling Team India to a series win in Raipur, Axar Patel unfurled his batting dexterity against the same Australian unit in Bengaluru. The elegant all-rounder pumped out 31 valuable runs down the order for his side, and shared a rapid 46-run partnership with fellow aggressor Shreyas Iyer.
Patel himself produced two boundaries and a six off his attacking 21-ball cameo, as Team India surged towards a competitive 160-8 off their 20 overs.
Axar Patel adds crucial runs for India at the death
Axar Patel, batting at number seven, arrived to the crease in the 14th over of the Indian innings following the dismissal of Jitesh Sharma.
The last recognized batsman in the line-up, the cricketer provided notable run-scoring assistance to well-set Shreyas Iyer at the other end, and their belligerent death-overs assault stormed Team India towards a competitive 160-8 by the end of their innings.
Axar himself pounded an attacking 31 from just 21 balls, while Iyer top-scored with a 37-ball 53.
Axar Patel bagged the ‘Player of the Match’ in Raipur a couple of days ago for his match-winning spell against Australia. The left-arm spinner grabbed three key Australian wickets, including the prized scalps of Travis Head and Aaron Hardie to script a 20-run series-clinching win for his side.
The ongoing series marks Axar Patel’s comeback to competitive cricket after he was ruled out of team’s World Cup 2023 squad owing to a wrist injury.
In spite of his recent all-round brilliance against Australia, the 29-year-old was dropped from India’s T20I squad for their forthcoming series in South Africa. The cricketer, however, will travel to the rainbow nation, albeit for the ODI fixtures alongside KL Rahul.
