'Certainly, Jump At The Opportunity: Mitch Marsh On Opening During WC 2023

As the Indian team prepares to face Australia in a high-stakes, three-match One Day International (ODI) series, the focus is already shifting toward the upcoming World Cup 2023, slated to begin on October 5 in India.

Mitchell Marsh opens up on possible opening role and World Cup dreams

With both teams viewing the IND vs AUS series starting Friday as a precursor to the tournament, key players from each side are weighing in on their expectations and ambitions. Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, who has been in outstanding form recently, subtly addressed the possibility of opening the batting in the absence of injured Travis Head.

While Marsh was cautious about overtly stating his desire to open, he did express that he relishes the role and enjoys batting alongside David Warner. The lanky all-rounder reckoned that the privilege of representing Australia surpasses any specific batting position, and he would gladly take on the role if the situation called for it.

"I never like to say ‘yes’ to those sorts of questions because I don’t like being in the headlines saying that I want to open the batting but it’s certainly an enjoyable role, and I love batting with Davey (Warner) and I love batting with Travis Head so I feel like everyone says it but to get an opportunity to play for Australia is just a huge honour and wherever I bat I am happy so if that’s at the top for the foreseeable future with Heady being away through injury, then yeah, I will certainly jump at the opportunity," said Marsh.

Regarding Australia's World Cup aspirations, Marsh expressed optimism and confidence. He believes he's in top form heading into both the upcoming series against India and the World Cup. Viewing this as potentially the last one-day format World Cup for many in the team, Marsh stated the team aims to give their all and seize the opportunity to go as far as possible in the tournament.

“I feel like I am batting as good as I have over the last couple of months so yeah, I take a lot of confidence into the World Cup and this series. It’s a huge opportunity for the majority of us. It's potentially our last World Cup, certainly in the one-day format. I am looking forward to giving everything we have, and India is such an incredible place to play cricket so looking forward to the experience. Hopefully, we can go as far as possible,” concluded the 31-year-old.
