The Manchester Test between England and India ended in a draw after five days of fight. However, it was a moral victory for the Men in Blue. The resilience shown by Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar in the fifth-wicket stand defined the fightback.
Amid the celebrations, a special moment amid the celebration caught the eye of Indian fans. It resonated as a déjà vu moment when Shubman Gill asked Ravindra Jadeja to do Jadeja's viral 'sword' celebration after the all-rounder hit his ton.
Gill's Request To Jadeja Is 'Same Same But Different'
Ravindra Jadeja showed his grit at the crease after Shubman Gill fell and batted his way to a shining ton off 182 balls. Soon after his century, Shubman Gill, who was sitting in the pavilion, stood up and gestured with his hands for Jadeja to do his trademark 'sword' celebration.
This triggered a déjà vu for fans who remembered that, back in 2019 during the Ranchi Test against South Africa, Ravindra Jadeja made a valiant fifty and then-captain Virat Kohli had also asked the all-rounder to do the sword celebration while riding an imaginary horse after his half-century. Interestingly, at that time, behind Kohli stood a young Shubman Gill, and cut to the present, Gill is now the one doing what Kohli did six years ago.
Jadeja-Washington Heroics Lead To Manchester Draw
Nevertheless, Jadeja’s heroic stand alongside Washington Sundar for a partnership of 203 runs helped India end the match in a draw, which could have turned into a disaster if the English bowlers had gained momentum.
Despite losing two wickets for zero on the first day of India’s second innings, skipper Shubman Gill himself held strong alongside KL Rahul to dash England’s hopes of sealing the series.
With the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy still at 2-1 after four Tests, India need to win the final Test in London to level the series. The London Test starts on July 31 and will continue till August 4.
