The 4th Test between India and England at Old Trafford ended in a dramatic draw, with both sides engaging in heated discussion over mutual handshakes. Even after Ravindra Jadeja completed his hundred, Harry Brook went for a draw appeal, only to be rejected by Washington Sundar.

The drama unfolded in the final few minutes of Day 5’s play. India’s resistance ruled out the possibility of a result, as they had claimed the lead. Shubman Gill scored a hundred, and after his dismissal, Jadeja and Sundar stitched a 203-run partnership.

Harry Brook Embarrassed By Washington Sundar’s Handshake Rejection

With both Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar batting in their 80s, a tired Ben Stokes walked up with an offer to call the game off with mutual handshakes and settle for a draw. However, Jadeja denied the request for his hundred, leaving England fuming.

Stokes, in a fit of rage, summoned part-timer Harry Brook, who bowled 58 kmph loose deliveries to allow Jadeja to hit. The all-rounder did the same and brought up his hundred with a boundary.

Thinking India were satisfied with Jadeja’s century, Brook approached Sundar with a handshake, suggesting a draw. However, Washington Sundar seemingly ignored him and walked towards his teammate to celebrate his milestone.

The blatant and cold ignorance left Brook red-faced with his hand stuck in the air. He appeared dazed and took a couple of minutes to wrap his head around what was happening.

Soon, Brook realised Sundar too wanted to get a hundred, and he returned to his bowling mark to wrap up the proceedings. The entire moment was caught on camera, leaving fans in splits.

Two overs later, Sundar brought up his maiden Test century, and only then did both teams agree to shake hands. However, England and their captain, Ben Stokes, received a lot of flak on social media for unsportsmanlike tactics.
