On Friday, June 3, Mumbai locked horns against Puducherry in the sixth round of the Vijay Hazare Trophy at the Gujarat College Ground. The Shreyas Iyer-led won the toss and opted to bat first. The decision didn't go in Mumbai's favour as they lost early wickets.
Shreyas Iyer Rocks With Second Century
Notably, Mumbai lost five wickets for 82 runs and were in deep trouble. Meanwhile, the skipper rose to the occasion and led by example. Iyer played a valuable knock and smashed an unbeaten 137 (133), which featured 16 fours and four sixes.
He was the sole performer, as no other batter managed to score a fifty-plus score. It is worth noting that Iyer is in scintillating form in domestic cricket. Even in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, Iyer scored a 44-run knock in the match against Hyderabad and also smashed a century against Karnataka in December.
Concerning Times For Suryakumar Yadav
Further, Iyer was also brilliant in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Ranji Trophy. He is now among the runs and is eyeing a spot in the Champions Trophy 2025 squad which begins on February 19.
While Iyer is in scintillating form, it is concerning signs for Yadav, who registered a golden duck on his return to the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Talking about SKY, he too would look to have a place in the Champions Trophy 2025, but right now looks out of favour because of his form.
In the ongoing tournament, SKY has just 38 runs in four matches and it was his second straight duck in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024. At present, India are busy playing in BGT, but will soon announce squad for England series at home.
