Shakib Al Hasan has completed another milestone in his evergreen career after a scintillating 3-wicket-haul in CPL 2025. The Bangladesh all-rounder has now equalled Andre Russell in the elite list of most Player of the Match awards in men’s T20 cricket.

Playing for the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025, Shakib produced a brilliant spell that not only helped his team secure victory but also etched his name in cricket history.

Shakib Al Hasan’s 3/11 Spell Wins Him Record MOTM Award

Facing the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots at the iconic Sir Viv Richards Stadium in Antigua, Shakib Al Hasan was at his absolute best with the ball. The left-arm spinner radically changed the outcome of the match even though he only bowled two overs.

He broke the backbone of the Patriots' batting lineup with final figures of 3 wickets for just 11 runs. Shakib's clever variations and tight lines left the visiting batters in the dark. His spell held the Patriots to a modest 137 runs, which always appeared to be attainable.

But Shakib had more work to do. During batting, he added a useful 25 runs off 18 deliveries, maintaining the chase on track. Thanks to his all-round brilliance, the Falcons cruised home with seven wickets in hand and two balls to spare. Naturally, Shakib was named Player of the Match.

This is his 44th T20 Man of the Match award, joining Andre Russell in the elite list. Currently, only five players in men’s T20 cricket have more than 40 Player of the Match awards, and Shakib is right there among the greats.

More importantly, through this three-wicket-haul, Shakib reached the massive milestone of 500 wickets in T20 cricket. He became only the fifth bowler in history to do so, after Rashid Khan, Dwayne Bravo, Sunil Narine, and Imran Tahir. Even more special, Shakib is the first left-arm spinner ever to achieve this landmark.
