Cricket has seen its fair share of bizarre dismissals, but Shai Hope’s hit wicket in the CPL 2025 clash between Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) and Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) might just go down as one of the most outrageous ones. At a stage when Hope was batting fluently and carrying GAW’s innings, he became the architect of his own downfall in the most unexpected fashion.

Shai Hope Goes Down In A Wide Ball!

Shai Hope, who had played responsibly to reach 39 off 29 balls, attempted an audacious reverse shot off Terrance Hinds in the 15th over. The ball was delivered on a hard length, angled wide outside off. Hope lined up for the stroke, eyeing the vacant third man region. He swung with full force, but completely missed the ball.

What followed left the stadium in disbelief. As his bat followed through, the blade swung back violently and clipped the bails clean off. For a moment, nobody, including Hope himself, realised what had happened. The ball had missed the edge, there was no appeal, yet the stumps had been rattled. It was only after the replays that the sheer absurdity of the dismissal was confirmed. Hope had dislodged the bails with his own bat.

This hit wicket was a cruel twist of fate. Until then, Hope was anchoring the innings. His three boundaries and a clean six had kept GAW’s innings afloat amid regular wickets. Instead of falling to a bowler’s skill or pressure, he fell to a freak accident of his own making. The dismissal sucked the momentum out of the innings, with the Warriors crumbling soon after.

Trinbago Sweep Guyana With Ease

As for the match, Guyana Amazon Warriors could only post 163/9 in their 20 overs. Contributions came from Quentin Sampson (25 off 19) and Dwaine Pretorius (21 off 16), but no one could convert a start into a defining knock. Akeal Hosein (3/27) and Hinds (2/35) ensured TKR kept things under control with the ball.

In reply, Trinbago Knight Riders made light work of the chase. Alex Hales (74 off 43) and Colin Munro (52 off 30) stitched a blazing 116-run stand that all but sealed the result. Despite a late four-wicket burst from captain Imran Tahir (4/27), TKR crossed the line comfortably in 17.2 overs, winning by six wickets. Hope’s bizarre dismissal may dominate the headlines, but for TKR, it was a night of clinical batting and another convincing victory in the tournament.
