Shakib Al Hasan, once praised as one of the best all-rounders in the world, is still struggling with the bat. In the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025, his batting form has been poor. So far, he has scored only 31 runs in 3 innings, with an average of just 10.33 and a strike rate of 73.81.

However, with the ball, he has been much better, as he is now very close to reaching 500 wickets in T20 cricket.

Shakib al Hasan Falls Cheaply Against TKR

Shakib is playing for Antigua & Barbuda Falcons, but his batting troubles have continued. In their 7th match against the Trinbago Knight Riders, he managed only 7 runs from 13 balls before getting out cheaply once again. Even so, he finally took his first wicket of the tournament in a tidy one-over spell, moving closer to the 500 T20 wicket milestone.

At first, Antigua struggled after being asked to bat. However, Fabian Allen’s quickfire 45 off 20 balls and captain Imad Wasim’s unbeaten 39 lifted them to a total of 167. In reply, Trinbago got off to a flying start thanks to Colin Munro’s 44 from 18 balls. But then, Obed McCoy struck with four wickets, slowing down their chase.

Even though Kieron Pollard tried to rescue Trinbago with some big hits, including three sixes in the second-to-last over, they still needed 14 runs from the final over. However, Shamar Springer bowled calmly, giving away only six runs and sealing the win for the Falcons. With this victory, Antigua moved to the top of the points table with five points from four games.

Although McCoy was hit for 22 runs in his last over, he was still named Player of the Match for his crucial four-wicket haul.

Meanwhile, Shakib’s poor form with the bat remains a concern. It is important to note that his last international appearance for Bangladesh was in a Test series against India in October 2024.
