Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer experienced a massive setback after being omitted from the team for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2025. Undeterred by the disappointment, Iyer was seen in Mumbai with a smile on his face, winning the hearts of fans.
Iyer, one of the most consistent performers across the Indian circuit at the moment, has proved his mettle to secure his spot in the white-ball team. He performed exceptionally well during the 2023 ODI World Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy.
Still, fate had other plans, as the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee dropped him from India’s T20I squad for the Asia Cup tournament.
Shreyas Iyer Puts On A Brave Face Despite Controversial Snub
Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer is not backing down without a fight. In a video shared by the Punjab Kings’ official Instagram handle, Iyer was seen walking out of the Boojee cafe in Mumbai.
Dressed casually in a blue t-shirt, black shorts, and red shoes, the star cricketer appeared relaxed, even though he was left out of India’s 15-member squad just hours ago.

While Iyer is fighting his situation by putting on a brave face, his omission has sparked widespread debate.
The selectors preferred younger options like Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson, Jitesh Sharma, Shivam Dube, and Rinku Singh for the middle-order and lower middle-order positions. Iyer, despite his proven track record, was not even named as a standby player.
To add to the disappointment of his fans, Iyer has just returned from a fantastic IPL 2025 campaign, where he had scored 604 runs in 17 games and took Punjab Kings to their first final appearance since 2014. His form, leadership, and fitness seemed to make him a strong contender, but the selectors chose otherwise.
Ajit Agarkar Says Eliminating Iyer Was A Tough Call
India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad was announced through a press conference where chief selector Ajit Agarkar was joined by captain Suryakumar Yadav. He said ignoring Shreyas Iyer was a tough call.
“With regard to Shreyas, you need to tell me who he can replace. No fault of his, nor is it ours. It’s just that we have to pick 15 at the moment; he’ll have to wait for his chance.”
While missing out on the Asia Cup will hurt, Iyer’s calm demeanour in public suggests he is taking the decision in his stride, staying positive, and preparing for the opportunities ahead.
