As the Asia Cup 2025 is on the horizon, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee has announced a star-studded squad. After the squad came out, the omission of a few promising players is turning heads and sparking debate.
In a shocking development, Yashasvi Jaiswal has failed to secure a place in the main squad. The decision stirred a debate, leaving former Indian selector Madan Lal equally surprised.
Jaiswal’s Snub Stuns Ex-India Star
Under Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy, Team India is set to step into the big stage of the Asia Cup 2025, but a controversy sparked even before the tournament started. As some of the promising stars missed out on their place in the squad, Yashasvi Jaiswal is one of them. As the fiery opener faced a snub despite promising stats, the move raised eyebrows.
While the cricketing world continues to question Yashasvi Jaiswal’s exclusion, India’s 1983 World Cup-winning member and former chief selector Madan Lal remained stunned. Speaking to ANI, he addressed the move as ‘surprising’.
“Sometimes you feel surprised that a player like Yashasvi Jaiswal is not in the team…I don’t know why Hardik Pandya has been removed,” he said.
Madan Lal Applauds Shubman Gill
After shattering the big stage on his Test captaincy debut in England, Shubman Gill returned to the shortest format with a bang. Replacing Axar Patel, he has been appointed as the vice-captain of the Indian side for the Asia Cup 2025. As the move sparked controversy, Madan Lal stood firm behind Gill, hailing him as an all-format player.
“But Gill is a good choice as he is performing well. In the coming time, it is possible that Gill will play in all three formats. The players who make the team win a match must not be left out…We have such a good team that we may win the Asia Cup,” he said.
As the tournament is starting on September 9, Team India will face the UAE in their inaugural match in September. As the ‘Men in Blue’ are ready to take on the challenges, fans are excited for some unmissable T20 action on UAE soil.
