Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan extended his lean run in the ongoing Ranji Trophy competition, getting dismissed cheaply in the ongoing clash against Rajasthan. Sarfaraz, who was recently sidelined from India's Test squad, wasted another opportunity, managing only fifteen runs.

Sarfaraz Khan's poor run continues in Ranji Trophy

Sarfaraz Khan was a regular member of the Indian Test side until the Australia tour, where India suffered a crushing 3-1 defeat from the home side. His fitness standard and inconsistent returns eventually sidelined Sarfaraz Khan from the national setup before he roared back at critics with a scintillating ton in the Buchi Babu tournament.

Although Sarfaraz shed a lot of weight and proved his readiness for Test cricket, the BCCI selection committee didn't pick him for the West Indies series, and he was also excluded from the India A squad for the South Africa series. In such a scenario, the Ranji Trophy offered a golden chance to Sarfaraz to showcase his form and put his hat in the ring for selection for the South Africa Test series.

However, Sarfaraz Khan, who looked promising with scores of 42 and 32 in his first match of the season, departed scoring 15 runs. Although he struck three boundaries, the right-handed batter couldn't capitalise on his start, being dismissed by Ashok Sharma.

Sarfaraz Khan's Ranji Trophy failure jeopardises SA Test selection

While the Indian fans heavily criticised the BCCI for neglecting Sarfaraz Khan, the batter himself failed to prove his doubters wrong with a persistent lean patch in the Ranji Trophy. Overall, he has managed only 90 runs across four innings at a modest average of 22.5. So, despite India reshaping their middle order in the post-Kohli era, Sarfaraz's comeback for the South Africa series seems really bleak at the moment.
