What Was That, Rohit Sharma? Every Indian cricket fan was left in disbelief after captain Rohit Sharma missed a golden opportunity to grab an easy catch of Jaker Ali. The moment was even more crucial as it was Axar Patel's hat-trick ball, and had Rohit held on, it would have been a milestone for the star Indian all-rounder.
The incident occurred during the 9th over of Bangladesh's innings when Axar Patel bowled a beautifully flighted off-break outside off, with two slips in place. Jaker Ali pressed forward in defense but got an outside edge that flew straight to Rohit Sharma at first slip. With both hands on the ball, Rohit seemed set to complete the catch—but to everyone’s disbelief, he spilled it.
Realising his mistake, Rohit furiously slapped the turf in frustration and later apologised to Axar Patel with folded hands. While Axar responded with a wry smile, it was evident that he was deeply disappointed by the missed opportunity.
India Strike Early Against Bangladesh
Earlier in the match, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first, but it turned out to be a nightmare for them. In the very first over, Mohammad Shami struck early for India, dismissing Soumya Sarkar. Harshit Rana followed up by removing captain Najmul Hossain Shanto for a duck. Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the next to depart for 5 runs off 10 balls, falling to Shami. Axar Patel then made an impact with his brilliant bowling, dismissing Tanzid Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim.
At the time of writing, Bangladesh are struggling at 65 for 5 in 16.2 overs.
