Mohammad Saifuddin, a pace-bowling all-rounder for Bangladesh, has requested a two-month break from cricket due to his mental health struggles.

This decision comes as a significant setback for Bangladesh, as Saifuddin was scheduled to participate in the Bangladesh 'A' team's tour of Pakistan, which included the second four-day match and the one-day series.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has acknowledged his request and seems and have supported him in his difficult time.

A BCB selection panel member mentioned that Mohammad Saifuddin's email was received and noted, and further discussions will take place when he returns to Dhaka to better understand his struggles.

"He sent me an email on July 30, after the A team was announced, expressing his mental distress over missing the Global T20 and the last World Cup. He requested not to be considered for any form of cricket for the next two months and to view his letter positively. I replied 'noted' and mentioned we need to talk when he returns to Dhaka to understand what he's going through," the official said.

Saifuddin's situation has been further exacerbated by his exclusion from Bangladesh's ICC T20 World Cup 2024 squad and his inability to participate in the ongoing Global T20 Canada league due to visa issues.

These setbacks have evidently taken a toll on his mental health, which forced him to request a break. His rib injury, sustained during a gym session in Mirpur, was another unfortunate blow, that prevented him from participating in the Global T20 Canada.
