Brief Scores: India: 211 all out (46.2 overs) [Sai Sudharsan: 62 (83), KL Rahul: 56 (64); Nandre Burger 3/30 (10), Beuran Hendricks 2/34 (9.2)] lost to South Africa: 215-2 (42.3 overs) [Tony de Zorzi: 119* (122), Reeza Hendricks: 52 (81); Rinku Singh 1/2 (1), Arshdeep Singh 1/28 (8)] by eight wickets.

South Africa levelled their three-match series against India with a clinical all-round performance in the second ODI at Port Elizabeth.

Nandre Burger demolishes Indian batting order

Nandre Burger, after going wicketless in his debut ODI a couple of days ago in Johannesburg, struck in his second ball of the match by removing Indian opener Ruturaj Gaikwad. The lanky Proteas speedster also curtailed Tilak Varma's struggling 30-ball stay at the crease with a searing short delivery in the 12th over of the innings.

Jolted by early strikes, young Indian opener Sai Sudharsan shared 68 runs for the third wicket with captain KL Rahul. The two cricketers produced fighting half-centuries to top score in the innings before the former was done in by a brute of a delivery from new-ball pacer Lizaad Williams.

Beuran Hendricks picked up two wickets in the innings, including the prized scalp of Sanju Samson. In comparison, spinners Keshav Maharaj and Aiden Markram blew away the Indian tail by sharing three wickets between them. In one of his return spells, Burger also dismissed a threatening KL Rahul to finish with career-best figures of 3-30 from his ten overs.

Arshdeep Singh added 18 handy runs in the death to stretch India's total to 211 before they were dusted out inside their allotted quota.

Tony de Zorzi’s maiden ton extinguishes Indian fire

South African openers Reeza Hendricks and Tony de Zorzi wiped out 130 runs off their 212-run target on their own with their match-defining partnership at the top. While Hendricks was dismissed by Arshdeep Singh for an 81-ball 52, his younger partner Zorzi went on to bludgeon nine boundaries and six sixes to tally his maiden ODI century.

The 26-year-old scored 119* runs in all from 122 balls, while number three Rassie van der Dussen (36) was entrapped by Rinku Singh at the brink of the finishing line. South Africa eventually romped past India's total with eight wickets and 7.3 overs left in the bank to level their three-match series with a game to spare.

The two white-ball titans will now travel to Boland's Paarl Stadium for the series-deciding third ODI on December 21.
