In a strategic move during the IPL Players Auction 2024 in Dubai, the Gujarat Titans (GT) successfully acquired the services of Afghanistan batter Azmatullah Omarzai for his base price of Rs 50 lakh. The all-rounder's addition to the squad adds depth and versatility, enhancing GT's roster for the upcoming season.
The auction, however, witnessed a dramatic twist for the Gujarat Titans as they engaged in a prolonged battle for the highly sought-after Australian pacer, Mitchell Starc. Initially appearing triumphant in securing Starc, GT momentarily dethroned his teammate Pat Cummins.
However, in a surprising turn of events, Gujarat Titans opted to withdraw, allowing the Kolkata Knight Riders to swoop in and secure Starc for a record-breaking 24.75 crore. This historic signing made Mitchell Starc the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League.
Before the auction, GT had assembled a formidable pre-auction squad featuring prominent names like Kane Williamson, Rashid Khan, Shubman Gill, and others. Notable releases from their roster included Alzarri Joseph, Dasun Shanaka, Shivam Mavi, and others. Importantly, Gujarat Titans saw a significant trade as they bid farewell to Hardik Pandya, who moved to the Mumbai Indians.
With the auction concluded, the Gujarat Titans look forward to a competitive and dynamic IPL season with a well-balanced squad, blending experienced players and promising talents to make a mark in the tournament.
