South Africa overcame England in a tense high-scoring thriller to clinch the three-match ODI series with a game to spare. Matthew Breetzke smashed his record fifth fifty-plus score since debut to headline South Africa innings before bowlers Nandre Burger and Keshav Maharaj survived England’s late scare.

Breetzke Stars With Another 50 As South Africa Mount 330-8

South Africa openers Aiden Markram (49 off 64) and Ryan Rickelton (35 off 33) crafted a pacey 73-run partnership in 13 overs before both well-set batters were dismissed by Adil Rashid and Jofra Archer respectively. Captain Temba Bavuma at number three also made his way back to the sheds for just four courtesy of Rashid (2-33) as the Proteas slipped from 73-0 to 93-3 in the space of six overs.

Middle-order batters Matthew Breetzke (85 off 77) and Tristan Stubbs (58 off 62) subsequently forged a counterattacking 147-run stand for the fourth wicket. After Stubbs’ runout, Dewald Brevis clattered 42 off 20 balls in a swift cameo while unbeaten Corbin Bosch chipped in with 32* from 29 deliveries as South Africa mounted 330-8 in 50 overs. For England, Jofra Archer additionally dismissed Breetzke before adding two more to his tally in the final over to finish with figures of 4-62.

Chasing 331, England lost opener Jamie Smith off the very first ball of the run chase to South African quick Nandre Burger. South Africa eventually survived Archer scare by securing a thrilling five-run win to bag the three-match series 2-0.
