Sonny Baker had a debut to forget as the England fast bowler endured some of the most brutal battering on his first outing. Called up in the national playing XI for the series-opening first ODI match against South Africa at Headingley in Leeds, Baker conceded 76 runs off just his seven wicketless overs, and was taken off the attack at the end of the 16th over of the South African run-chase by his captain Harry Brook.
Through the course of his expensive spell, the Hampshire lad attained an unwanted record, joining the likes of Liam Dawson and David Lawrence in an ignominious list.
Sonny Baker Leaks Most Runs For ENG On Debut
Right-arm fast bowler Sonny Baker shared the new ball for England alongside Jofra Archer on his ODI debut, doing so against South Africa on September 2 in Leeds. In the very first over of the match, Baker was flogged around for three boundaries by South Africa opener Aiden Markram.
Markram piled on Baker’s pain the following over by belting the 22-year-old for two huge sixes and a boundary. With Ryan Rickelton joining in the fun, the English debutant started off his ODI career by leaking 56 runs off his first four overs. Overall, he finished his seven-over workload with expensive figures of 0-76 to concede most runs by any England bowler on ODI debut. Here is a list of four most expensive England debutants in their ODI history.
