Indian captain Rohit Sharma was seen utilizing hot water bags to keep his hands warm while fielding against Afghanistan in Mohali under the cold weather.

The first fixture of the three-game T20 series between India and Afghanistan kicked off earlier today as Sharma opted to ball after winning the toss. However, the conditions were not ideal for a cricket game. Just an hour after the game commenced, Mohali’s temperature dropped to 9° Celsius.

Understandably, the Indian fielders had a rough day on the field. A couple of catchers were dropped as the hosts could barely feel the ball in their hands. Shivam Dube dropped a dolly mid-off in the powerplay, which allowed the Afghani openers to add 50 off runs to the opening stand.

However, Indian captain Rohit Sharma was sharp inside the 30-year circle. He sent his counterpart, Ibrahim Zadran, packing with a safe catch at short cover.

However, shortly after, Sharma called in support staff with hot water bags. Rohit was seen using the heat to keep his hands warm. He also carried hand warmers and used them as and when deemed necessary.

The rest of the Indian fielders also donned multiple layers of clothing to beat the cold. However, the temperature continued to drop as and when the game progressed.

Many were spotted shivering, and smoke flew out their mouths as they breathed.

Having said that, the weather in Mohali has been extreme ever since the teams landed in the Northern city earlier this week. Even in practice sessions, the Indian players could barely grip the ball or hit it with free arms.

Regardless, in the midst of chilly weather, the game progressed as scheduled. Afghanistan picked up pace in the last 10 overs to put a handsome target of 158 runs on board. India has witnessed a sloppy start with openers back in the hut in powerplay. The contest is currently open for both sides.
