Rohit Sharma was in scintillating form on Day 4 of the second Test against Bangladesh at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur. The 37-year-old opener displayed his attacking prowess with a blistering knock as he scored 23 runs off just 11 balls before being dismissed.

During his short stay at the crease, Rohit broke former India opener and current head coach Gautam Gambhir’s record for career Test runs, adding another milestone to his illustrious career.

After bowling out Bangladesh for 233 in their first innings, India’s batting display was all about aggression as they looked to push for a result despite the significant time lost to rain on the first three days.

Leading from the front, Rohit Sharma opened India’s innings aggressively, smashing back-to-back sixes on the first two balls of the second over.

Rohit Sharma's Record-Breaking Knock Vs Bangladesh

Rohit Sharma's attacking approach paid off as he made a rapid 55-run opening partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal in just 3.5 overs. The duo’s efforts helped India set a new record for the fastest team fifty in Test history. Rohit’s contribution may have been brief, but it was one of the highlights of the day as India raced ahead in pursuit of a strong lead.

During his knock, Rohit surpassed Gautam Gambhir’s Test runs tally of 4154. Gambhir, who played 58 Tests for India between 2004 and 2016, was known for his gritty performances in the longest format of the game.

Rohit, who made his Test debut in 2013, now has 4178 runs to his name in 61 matches. This milestone is yet another testament to his versatility and adaptability across formats.

With India scheduled to play as many as eight more Tests in the coming three months, Rohit has an opportunity to climb higher in the list of India’s all-time great Test batsmen.

Having already overtaken Gambhir’s record, the Mumbai-based cricketer will now be eyeing the records of legendary names like Mohinder Amarnath, MS Dhoni, Ajinkya Rahane, and Kapil Dev.
