Surrounded by the ocean of blues and under the shadows of the Indian Air Force fighter jets, Team India took on Australia for the epic ICC Mens ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 finals clash at the acclaimed Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Pat Cummins secured the crucial coin toss contest and elected to field in the decider game. India's dependable opening duo, captain Rohit Sharma and Shubhman Gill, walked out after soaking in the applause of 1,30,000 supporters.

The Indian skipper meant business as he scored multiple boundaries off Josh Hazelwood's first over. While Gill perished to mighty Mitchell Starc, Rohit refused to shift gears and continued to attack aggressively from one end.

Rohit Sharma's attacking intent forced Cummins to introduce part-time spinner Glenn Maxwell in the powerplay. Unsurprisingly, the Indian captain didn't slow down and slammed ten runs in the first three deliveries, which included a robust six.

However, in a fit to turn it into a big over, Rohit Sharma fell victim to Travis Head's stunner effort at mid-on. With 47 runs in the bag off just 31 balls, the Indian skipper had to walk back as the crowd stood stunned.

Nevertheless, Rohit Sharma left a profound impact with his start. It provided the necessary stable stage for the middle order to capitalise on. Also, Rohit ended up securing a unique record for himself with the three sixes he slammed during his short stay.

He also surpassed T20 legend Chris Gayle to become the batter with the most sixes against a particular opponent in ODI cricket history. He now has 87 long hits against the Aussies, whereas Gayle had hit 85 versus England.

Earlier this year, the Indian captain also surpassed Chris Gayle's all-time high sixes record, which was deemed a phenomenal achievement.
