Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma has been in supreme form in the ongoing World Cup 2023. The opening batter has already amassed more than 400 runs in the tournament and has led from the front as the Indian team has reached the semi-finals once again.

Throughout the course of the tournament, Rohit has breached several milestones, and he reached another one during the ongoing match against The Netherlands at the Chinnaswamy stadium.

Rohit's new record

The right-handed batter crossed 14,000 international runs as an opener. It is interesting to note that Rohit started as a middle-order batter, and it wasn't until 2013 that he was promoted as an opener for Team India. He joins an elusive list, comprising of Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag, as the only Indian openers to have crossed the 14,000 runs atthe top of the batting.

Interestingly, despite making his Test debut in 2013 against the West Indies, it was 6 years later in 2019, that Rohit first batted as a specialist Test opener, and since then, the dynamic batter hasn't looked back.

Talking about Rohit's ongoing World Cup campaign, the Indian captain started with a duck against Australia, but that was the turning point as he tormented the opposition bowling attacks with his aggressive batting at the top.
