Sri Lankan skipper, Kusal Mendis' poor World Cup 2023 form continues as he fumbled yet again, this time against the New Zealand team in Bengaluru.

Having started the tournament on a positive note, with a whirlwind knock against South Africa, Mendis has failed to lit up the tournament as the strong of low scores followed him one after the another.

Sri Lanka have already been eliminated from the World Cup and the match against the Kiwis was a great opportunity for Mendis to bow out on a high. However, Trent boult had some other plans as he combined with the supreme efforts of Rachin Ravindra to sent the Lankan skipper back to the pavilion.

Boult delivered a good length ball on the off stump as Mendis went for an unnecessary flick down the leg side. The ball took the leading-edge and flew straight to Ravindra, who was stationed at third man. The Kiwi fielder sprinted forward and slid in quickly to grab a wonderful catch which shocked Mendis.

Talking about the match, Sri Lanka are in all sorts of trouble, losing Sadeera Samarwickrama for just 1 on the board. At the time of writing, the Lankan Lions have lost 3 wickets, on a belter of a surface. New Zealand have to win this contest to bolster their chances for a top-4 finish in this World Cup.
