Rohit Sharma On Verge Of Matching MS Dhoni In Special Captaincy Feat

Rohit Sharma stands on the verge of a special captaincy feat ahead of the second T20I of the three-match series against Afghanistan on Sunday (January 14) in Indore.

The Indian captain will equalise his legendary predecessor MS Dhoni in terms of wins as skipper for the country in the shortest format if he achieves another victory for the series over the tourists.

As it stands, Rohit has won 40 T20Is as Indian captain from 52 matches, one behind Dhoni's 41 from 72 games, including the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup back in 2007.

Rohit had leapfrogged his great teammate Virat Kohli in the esteemed list of Indian captains in the build-up to the 2022 edition of the biannual ICC tournament in Australia. Kohli finished off his tenure with 30 T20I wins in 50 matches at the top job.

Rohit Set To Match Dhoni With 'This' Feat

Notably, of all the Indian captains, Rohit has the best win/loss success ratio as skipper, nearly 3.5 matches won for every defeat in his term. Under the experienced opener, Team India have lost only 12 of their 52 matches, with one of those unfortunately being the semifinal of the Australian T20 World Cup against England.

Rohit has the chance to not just surpass Dhoni by the end of the series but also make amends for the horrific Adelaide defeat 15 months back via the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

The veteran Mumbaikar, who missed out on a great opportunity to bag an ICC silverware in his captaincy with the recent World Cup 2023, could well be playing his last major event in India colours when he steps shores in the Caribbean & USA.

As T20I captain, Rohit has smashed his 1,527 runs at an excellent strike-rate of 147.10 and made two hundreds along with 10 half-centuries, including the best of 118.
