New Zealand captain Kane Williamson walked off the field during the 10th over of the innings against Pakistan in the second T20I of their five-match series. Earlier in the over, the cricketer had experienced tightness in his right hamstring while completing a run with opening batsman Finn Allen.

A while later in the game, New Zealand Cricket announced that Williamson would not be returning to the field throughout the remainder of the second T20I as a precautionary measure.

Kane Williamson ruled out midway from second T20I

Making his return to New Zealand’s T20I setup through the ongoing home series against Pakistan, Kane Williamson has now been ruled out midway through the second match as a precautionary measure.

Earlier in the match, the seasoned campaigner had made his way to the crease on the brink of the opening powerplay after New Zealand lost opener Devon Conway for 20. Williamson kept the scoreboard ticking with Finn Allen, listing three boundaries and a six in his 15 balls stay to reach 26 before retiring himself at the end of the 10th over of the innings.

Earlier in the same over, the 33-year-old had experienced tightness on his right hamstring while he was completing a run. A while after Williamson rushed New Zealand to 111-1 from 10 overs, NZC confirmed that the cricketer would not be returning to the field in the contest.

Notably, Kane Williamson was also pre-rested from the series’ third T20I to manage his workload. Mitchell Santner will be leading the side in his absence instead.

Williamson’s 15-ball 26-run cameo, coupled with Finn Allen’s 74-run bombardment and middle-order fury from Daryl Mitchell and Mitchell Santner helped New Zealand blaze their way to 194-8 from their 20 overs. The ‘Black Caps’ headed into the game off the back of a 1-0 series lead, owing to their emphatic 46-run win over Pakistan in the first T20I.
