Rohit Sharma left his critics speechless on Saturday with a spectacular century, his 33rd in ODIs, while playing against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The former India captain, ably supported by Virat Kohli, crossed the three-digit mark with sheer elegance and grace, making fans across the country nostalgic.

Doubters escape as Rohit Sharma stands tall!

Hailed as one of the ODI greats, Rohit made only 8 off 14 balls during his much-anticipated comeback match in Perth, which took place on October 19. The hitman roared back to form after that, scoring a well-made 97-ball 73 in tough conditions in Adelaide during the second ODI before Sydney heroics.

More significantly, it was Rohit’s 50th international century, of which 12 came in Tests and 5 in T20Is. Needless to say, Rohit is currently playing only ODIs in internationals, having retired from both Tests and T20Is.

Rohit goes past Kohli in special Australia ODI century list

With that, Rohit went past Virat Kohli in the list of most ODI hundreds by a visiting player. Rohit now has six in Australia in 33 innings, with Kohli having five in 32 innings. Kumar Sangakkara is third on the list, having made five centuries in 49 innings.

Adding to that, Rohit moved to another chart in which only Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli – easily the two ODI GOATS - could make their places.

Most ODI centuries against a single opposition

  • 10 Virat Kohli vs Sri Lanka
  • 9 Virat Kohli vs West Indies
  • 9 Sachin Tendulkar vs Australia
  • 9 Rohit Sharma vs Australia

At the time of writing this, India are moments away from a consolation victory in the series. Nevertheless, with Rohit and Kohli showing audacity for total control, Indian fans would take that any day before the focus shifts to T20Is -- a five-match tug of war.
