India’s Rohit Sharma equaled Chris Gayle's record for the most sixes during the third ODI against Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium on August 7.

The Indian skipper is now the second batter to hit the most sixes in ODI history, with only Pakistan's Shahid Afridi ahead of him.

Rohit Sharma has now smashed 331 sixes in his ODI career, matching the record set by West Indies great Chris Gayle, who also hit 331 sixes in 294 innings.

Sri Lanka's interim head coach Sanath Jayasuriya is third on the list with 270 sixes in 433 innings, and former India captain MS Dhoni is fourth with 229 maximums in 297 innings.

Rohit Sharma: 331

Chris Gayle: 331

Sanath Jayasuriya: 270

MS Dhoni: 229

In the match, Sri Lanka posted a competitive score of 249, with Avishka Fernando scoring a brilliant 96 runs off 102 balls. India, while chasing, crumbled under pressure.

Rohit Sharma started aggressively and played some wonderful strokes, scoring 35 runs, the highest for India in the match. However, India failed to chase the target and were bowled out, leading to a historic series win for Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka beat India in an ODI series for the first time in 27 years. After a drubbing in the T20I series, the Lankan team showed great character to bounce back and win the three-match ODI series 2-0, after the first game ended in a tie.
