Rohit Sharma may have been dismissed for a second consecutive duck in Indore but India's comprehensive victory in the second T20I and an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series handed the veteran opener a remarkable feat as skipper in the shortest format.

The 'Hitman' equalled his legendary predecessor MS Dhoni's record for most wins as Indian captain in T20I history with a battering given to the touring Afghans at the Holkar Cricket Stadium on Sunday (January 14).

The hosts' six-wicket win was Rohit's 41st at the helm of affairs in T20Is over 53 matches, which helped him match the tally of great Dhoni, under whom the Men in Blue achieved a win on 41 occasions from 72 games.

Rohit Levels With Dhoni On Special T20I Feat

Rohit had started the Indore T20I on the verge of equalling Dhoni's captaincy feat and managed to level up with the legend, whose CV as skipper included the triumph in the 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa.

The 36-year-old opener had pipped over his other predecessor and experienced teammate Virat Kohli in the highest number of T20I wins as captain in the build-up to the 2022 edition of the biannual ICC event in Australia. Kohli won 30 and lost 16 of his 50 matches as captain.

Notably, Rohit boasts of the best win/loss record among all Indian T20I skippers, with ten or more games played as captain. His tally stands at just 12 defeats and a win/loss of 3.416. Second to him is premier allrounder Hardik Pandya, who has stood up for him time and again since last year, with ten wins in 16 matches and a win/loss of 2.000.

Rohit now has the chance to become the most successful Indian T20I captain if he plays and leads the side to a win in the third and final match of the Afghanistan series in Bangalore on Wednesday (January 17).
