A number of Indian and Sri Lankan players emerged as the biggest beneficiaries of the latest shuffle in the ICC ODI and T20I rankings in men’s cricket.

While Team India recently registered emphatic white-ball series wins in South Africa and against Australia and Afghanistan at home, Sri Lanka routed Zimbabwe in T20Is as well as ODIs.

The series between Zimbabwe and hosts Sri Lanka featured the return of star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, who made a 15-spot jump to move to number 17 on the ICC rankings for ODI all-rounders. Indian cricketer Axar Patel, meanwhile, barged into the top five rankings of men’s T20I bowlers after he gained 12 rungs owing to his splendid run against Afghanistan.

Dashing Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal plundered successive half-centuries against South Africa and Afghanistan to jump from number 13 to number six on the latest ICC rankings for T20I batters.

Pakistan veteran Babar Azam also gained a rung to secure the fourth spot on the batting charts owing to his successive fifty-plus scores in New Zealand. Suryakumar Yadav continues to occupy the top slot with 869 rating points, finding himself 67 clear of second-placed Phil Salt.

Sri Lankan spinner Maheesh Theekshana also barged into the top 10 rankings for ICC ODI bowlers. The cricketer claimed five wickets in just two innings against Zimbabwe in January to make the staggering leap on the latest ICC charts.

Axar Patel, who jumped from number 17 to number five on the ICC charts for men’s T20I bowlers, also gained two rungs in the all-rounders department of the format to occupy the 16th position.

While the Indian contingent will soon be breaking out for England Tests and the subsequent IPL 2024 season, several Sri Lankan cricketers can make further enhancements to their ranking reputation.

As of now, they are slated to host Afghanistan for an all-format series, which will include three ODIs and as many three T20I matches.
