Virat Kohli notched up his first runs on the board this series, and celebrated the occasion by translating it to his 75th ODI half-century, doing so in the third match of the tour against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Vintage opener Rohit Sharma also punched out his second successive fifty-plus score of the series as the two legendary Indian batters chalked up a partnership worth more than 100 runs for the second wicket.

Through the course of their match-defining partnership, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli also hauled a huge batting record against Australia in ODIs.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have now become ODI cricket’s most illustrious batting pair against Australia. The two modern-day batting behemoths have now tallied 1,368 runs (and going) against Australia in just 27 ODI innings as partners.

They have broken the previous record set by Rohit Sharma himself, albeit with his yesteryear opening partner Shikhar Dhawan. Rohit and Dhawan together conjured 1,367 runs as batting partners against Australia in 24 ODI innings. Here is a look at four of the illustrious batting pairs in the history of ODI cricket against Australia.
