The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly decided to attend the upcoming Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting in Dhaka on Thursday, July 24. The meeting itself was intended to decide the fate of this year’s 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup, set to be played in the UAE.
Earlier, the BCCI expressed its reluctance in attending the meeting in Dhaka, citing India’s prevailing geo-political tensions with Bangladesh. Moreover, the BCCI as well as the Indian government is also reportedly taking a firm stand in suspending all cricket matches against fellow Asia Cup competitors and long-time rivals Pakistan.
BCCI Logs In, Tensions Cool Down!
As reported by Times of India Journalist Gaurav Gupta on X, the BCCI has agreed to attend the ACC meeting in Dhaka on Thursday, July 24 to determine the fate of the upcoming 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup in the UAE. The report further indicated that BCCI vice-president and long-time cricket administrator Rajeev Shukla will be attending the meeting.
Meanwhile, as BCCI raised objection to the ACC meeting in Dhaka, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi already reached the Bangladesh capital on Wednesday, July 23. He was received by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam.
Notably, the Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled to be played in September later this year, and the tournament will serve as a prelude for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The multi-nation event will reportedly be hosted by the United Arab Emirates.
Team India’s participation, however, continues to remain doubtful, especially in the wake of ‘Operation Sindoor’ and the subsequent surge in political tensions with Pakistan earlier this year. As of now, it remains to be seen what political or cricketing stance the BCCI will be taking at the meeting.
