After a solid start, India lost their openers, but more so, the wicket of Skipper Shubman Gill hurt. Gill, while trying to leave the ball, failed to judge it perfectly, as it struck his pads, and was given LBW.
Shubman Gill was taken To Cleaners By Fans For A Brain-Fade Moment
India had the perfect start on the opening session of the first day of the fourth Test at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester. The opening partnership between KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal lasted 94 runs before the former departed for 46. However, soon after, Jaiswal, who scored 58, was sent back to the pavilion by Liam Dawson.
However, the major turning point came when skipper Shubman Gill, batting on 12, left a ball that moved in from his opposition number Ben Stokes, as the ball crashed onto his pads and went through to the keeper. After this, all the English players appealed, and the umpire straight away gave LBW.
To make matters worse, Gill went upstairs, only to be denied as three reds were on the screen, considering he left the ball, which meant that impact did not matter. Gill departed after playing 23 deliveries with 12 runs. While going back, he was given a strong send-off by opposition skipper and bowler Stokes. With Gill's departure, India had now lost their third wicket for 140 runs, after being 94 for no loss.
Following this, social media went berserk as Gill was being trolled for a painful brain-fade moment on the field, as his misjudgment cost India big time.
