Sandhu delivers a four-wicket blast to test the Stars' grit
As the Melbourne derby entered the big stage, fans were expecting some unmissable fireworks, and the stars didn’t disappoint fans. While batting first, Melbourne Stars aimed for a smooth start until Gurinder Sandhu made his first mark, sending Sam Harper away in 20 runs. From there, the Renegades bowlers tightened the screws, and the Stars began to stumble through the middle overs.
Losing four wickets in 55 runs, Marcus Stoinis and Campbell Kellaway tried to turn the tide but Sandhu dismissed them in 16 runs. As the Renegades bowlers became lethal, Hilton Cartwright and Tom Curran tried to turn the tide, but again Sandhu dismissed their plan by removing Cartwright at a crucial point.
The bowler left with more destruction as he showcased his excellence in the last over. Removing Mitchell Swepson in the third delivery, he completed a remarkable four-wicket haul. Backed by sharp spells from Callum Stow and Hassan Khan, the Melbourne Stars were eventually restricted to 173 in their first innings.
Brown’s fighting knock puts the Renegades on track
After the thrilling first innings, fans were already down in T20 fever, and the second innings delivered even more drama. Chasing down the total, Seifert walked away early, but Josh Brown and Mohammad Rizwan’s iconic partnership turned the tide. As the Stars' bowlers aimed for early domination, they tore apart their bowling unit.
With a classic 103-run stand, the Renegades got a massive boost. After Rizwan walked away, scoring 41. Brown tightened his grip and scored a brilliant half-century. Just when the momentum seemed sealed, the Stars struck back as Mitchell Swepson dismissed Brown for 84, turning it into a crucial breakthrough.
Drama ignited in the last over as the Renegades were just 13 runs away from the win. Starting the over with a huge six, Will Sutherland set the tone early on. With some doubles and singles in between, he smashed another massive over-boundary in the second last ball of the innings and secured a classic four-wicket victory.
