Australian captain Mitchell Marsh appears to be peaking at the perfect time as he delivered a commanding performance in the Big Bash League (BBL 2025-26) at the Bellerive Oval, Hobart on Thursday, January 1. Representing the Perth Scorchers, Marsh produced a scintillating century against the Hobart Hurricanes, registering the second hundred of his BBL career.
Asked to bat first after the Hurricanes won the toss, the Scorchers began their innings with Marsh opening alongside Finn Allen. Marsh wasted no time in asserting himself, launching Chris Jordan for a first-ball six to set the tone.
Allen also came out firing, scoring 16 runs from just 10 deliveries. However, his stay at the crease ended early when Nathan Ellis outfoxed him.
Despite early wickets falling at the other end, Marsh maintained relentless momentum. Cooper Connolly departed cheaply, managing only four runs from eight balls after being bounced out by Mitchell Owen.
At that stage, the Scorchers needed stability, and Marsh provided exactly that while continuing to dominate the bowling attack.

The innings truly gained momentum once Aaron Hardie joined Marsh at the crease. The duo stitched together a stunning partnership, combining composure with clean striking.
Notably, Marsh reached his century in the 19th over, bringing it up with a single to deep backward point off Riley Meredith. The milestone came off just 58 balls, marking his second BBL ton and providing a powerful start to the 2026 calendar year.
Marsh’s innings eventually came to an end in the following over, once again at the hands of Nathan Ellis. He walked back after scoring a superb 102 runs from 58 deliveries, an effort decorated with 11 boundaries and five towering sixes.
It is worth mentioning that his departure concluded a monumental 164-run stand for the third wicket with Hardie, now recorded as the highest third-wicket partnership in BBL history. The partnership was constructed in just 84 balls, leaving the Hurricanes bowlers searching for answers.
While Marsh took the spotlight, Hardie ensured the scoring rate never dipped. He remained unbeaten on a career-best T20 score of 94 from only 43 balls. Together, their efforts propelled Perth Scorchers to an imposing total of 229 for 3 in the allotted 20 overs.
Among the Hurricanes bowlers, Nathan Ellis emerged as the most effective, finishing with figures of 2 for 44. Mitchell Owen also impressed in his brief spell, claiming one wicket for 26 runs in two overs.
