IPL 2026 may still be a long way off, but the buzz has already begun, for all the wrong reasons. After the India-Bangladesh geopolitical turmoil escalated, voice raised over Mustafizur Rahman’s exclusion from the KKR squad.
Following the BCCI’s directive, KKR released the veteran pacer, and the decision sparked outrage among Bangladeshi fans. After the major development, Mustafizur Rahman finally broke the silence on this matter.
Mustafizur opens up after shocking KKR omission
Though cricket and international relations are meant to stay apart, history shows how often one has shaped the other, and the India-Pakistan rivalry stands as the strongest example. After that, the India-Bangladesh tie is converting into another rivalry that has begun to spill into the game of cricket.
Tensions between the neighboring countries spilled onto the cricket field; the Indian fans opted to boycott IPL following Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman’s involvement with KKR. After a long thread of protest and criticism, the franchise finally released the pacer.
KKR’s move sparked outrage among the Bangladeshi fans who questioned Mustafizur’s questionable snub. As the roar went loud, the Bangladeshi star finally broke his silence. While speaking to the BDCrictime, he expressed his disappointment over being left out of the squad.
“If they release me, there’s nothing much I can do,” Mustafizur said.
KKR on the hunt for another fast-bowling star
After the IPL 2026 auction last month, the entire cricket world hailed KKR’s pace strategy as they made a solid bowling unit featuring Matheesha Pathirana and Mustafizur Rahman. But the scenario took an unexpected turn. Rising geopolitical tensions between India and Bangladesh forced the franchise to part ways with their star pacer.
Due to the sudden development, BCCI will allow the team to hunt a replacement for the Bangladeshi pacer. Ahead of stepping into the tournament, this will be a hard job to find a perfect replacement for the speedster.
Just not that, Bangladesh also requested to move the T20 World Cup games from India, which is unlikely to happen. On top of this, the postponed T20 series between the two nations, expected to be rescheduled this year, now also hangs in uncertainty.
