Travis Head made an excellent debut for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their high-intense IPL 2024 clash with five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) at home in Hyderabad on Wednesday (March 27).

The extravagant Australian left-hander blazed it out of the park and provided Sunrisers a scintillating and record-breaking start at his end, allowing the 2016 champions to produce one of the most fruitful powerplays in IPL history while also breaking a special individual record.

With his tremendous blitz, Head reached an unbeaten half-century in just 18 deliveries to push Sunrisers to a jaw-dropping 81/1 in the first six overs of the innings and also broke a longstanding feat held by SRH's former skipper David Warner.

Reaching 52 not out in 18 balls, Head broke the longstanding record of David Warner (20 ball fifty) as he smashed the fastest fifty in Sunrisers Hyderabad's history.

Abhishek Sharma then broke Head's record

An 18-ball fifty in T20s is not an easy feat to achieve, but Abhishek Sharma went one step ahead and smashed his half-century in a mere 16 deliveries, shattering Head's record which lasted minutes.

Both the batters took the attack to the opposition and gave no respite to them. However, MI did have a sigh of relief when both Head (62 off 24) and Abhishek (63 off 23) departed back to the pavilion.

At the time of writing, SRH are 165 for 3, with Klaasen and Markram at the crease.
