Former India opener Aakash Chopra advocates for Shivam Dube's inclusion in India’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, highlighting the need for a powerful batter on the slow pitches of the West Indies and the USA.

Dube's sparkling innings against Gujarat Titans on Tuesday, 26th March at the MA Chidambaram Chepauk Stadium earned him praise from all corners of the world.

He contributed a quickfire half-century, boosting CSK's total to 206/8, leading to their successful defense and securing their second consecutive victory of the season.

Batting at number four, Dube smashed 51 runs off just 23 balls, an innings laced with 5 sixes and 2 fours. Arriving at the crease with CSK at 104/2, he built a strong partnership with Daryl Mitchell, steering the team to 184/4 before being dismissed by Rashid Khan.

The ex-KKR batter lauded Dube's ability to consistently hit towering sixes. He stressed the importance of having a powerful batter like Dube in the T20 World Cup squad, especially considering the slow pitches and large grounds in Florida, New York, and the Caribbean.

"Keep him (Shivam Dube) around the T20 World Cup team. Whether it's the grounds in Florida, New York or the Caribbean, the pitches are slow and the grounds are big. So you need a powerful batter there, which he actually is. So he is going to be in my scheme of things for the World Cup,” said Aakash Chopra in a video shared on his YouTube channel.

In today’s day and age, the importance of a power hitter cannot be overstated, particularly in T20 cricket.

Dube's capability to accelerate the innings with his aggressive batting, especially against spinners during the middle overs, sets him apart and fills a crucial role for any team.

As the T20 World Cup approaches in June, Dube is among the players vying for selection, intensifying the competition within the IPL and drawing attention from both fans and national selectors alike.
