Wanindu Hasaranga's horror time continues as the Sri Lankan tweaker is about to face another week out from the playing action before potentially appearing on his debut for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2024, reported ESPNcricinfo.

According to the report, the talented Lankan Lion is expected to be unavailable for Sunrisers' campaign for at least another week as he consults doctors overseas about chronic pain in his left heel before being able to reassess his injury and finalise a timeline when he could play for the 2016 champions.

The spin all-rounder was part of the white-ball leg of Sri Lanka's tour of Bangladesh but is understood to have played the assignment  through substantial pain.  When the 26-year-old was initially assessed by Sri Lanka Cricket's (SLC) medical staff, the physios and doctors suspected the pain to be a result of a worn-out musculoskeletal apparatus in his left heel.

Wanindu Hasaranga Out For At Least Another Week

It was at the advise of SLC's medical staff that Hasaranga will be travelling abroad to seek further medical opinion and see what course of action would be best to manage and recover from his latest injury trouble. He is likely to travel out of Sri Lanka next week.

The development comes after Hasaranga was controversially suspended from taking part in Tests against Bangladesh despite announcing a retirement reversal in the traditional format.

It is being debated if SLC played a clever trick in the case to ensure his availability for the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2024 by green-signalling the player's Test comeback immediately after Hasaranga racked up his eighth demerit point in an ICC code of conduct breach during the ODI series in Bangladesh and was bound to miss his team's next international assignment.

Either way, Sunrisers' incisive recruit bought by the former champions at INR 1.5 crores at the IPL 2024 mini-auction will not be in the reckoning for a mininum of two more games, having earlier missed their campaign opener versus the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
